We partner with coffee growers who share our values for environmentally friendly practices, but we can’t guarantee that pesticides aren’t used. But in general, specialty-grade (high elevation) coffee farms don’t use many pesticides, because they don’t have as many bug problems at that altitude. Generally, coffee is pretty safe from pesticides, too, because the raw beans grow inside layers of parchment and cherry, and are protected even if they are sprayed. Then, they go through lots of washed processing at the milling stages. And finally, we roast our coffee at 400 degrees, and lab tests on our roasted samples haven’t identified pesticide residue.
